Former Gonzaga guard Josh Perkins cherishes moments before the NBA Draft

While he's not certain if he'll get drafted, the process leading up to the draft is something he will always remember.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The NBA Draft is coming up on Thursday and former Gonzaga guard Josh Perkins hopes to hear his name called.

While he's not certain if it will happen, the process leading up to the draft is something he will forever cherish. He's worked out for nine NBA teams.

"Not a lot of kids get that opportunity to practice in NBA arenas, get free shorts, just to pick the heads of the people who have been there," Perkins said. "I just take it day by day and am thankful for the opportunity that has been given."

He says he's had no problem sticking out at his NBA workouts. He was simply being himself.

"I just go in there, I'm the most vocal in the gym," Perkins said. "I just let the team know I'm a team person, I relate to different individuals. I get them involved and let the game speak for itself."

As the draft comes closer, he's just trying to keep realistic expectations.

"I've learned never get too high, never get too low. Obviously it would be a dream come true if I could hear my name," Perkins said. "So I'm hoping for that with everything within me. But there is also a part I could go undrafted."

Perkins says if he's drafted, he plans on taking his family out to an expensive dinner with his first NBA paycheck. He said he would just sign the tab and not look at the price.

If he's drafted, he'll likely be a second round pick.
