SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane indoor football team unveiled their new team name, logos and colors Wednesday
The Indoor Football League announced the former Spokane Shock will now be the Spokane Empire. League officials said the name is tied to the Inland Northwest, which is also known as the "Inland Empire." They said Spokane was known as the "Capital of the Inland Empire" in the early 20th century.
Team leaders said their colors will be black, silver and orange.
The organization opened a "Name the Team" contest in early November and received over 400 unique submissions from fans. The front office then went through a process of elimination based off trademark availability, suitability, and correlation to make their final selection.
The Spokane Empire will kick off their 2016 regular season on the road against the Tri-Cities Fever on Saturday, Feb. 20. Their home opener will be Saturday, Feb. 27 against the Wichita Falls Nighthawks.
