SPOKANE, Wash. — The "Big Sky Football Kickoff Weekend" youth camp began on Saturday, July 20.
The camp takes place at North Central High School through the weekend and dozens of students from across Washington and Idaho are participating in the clinic.
Shaun Brophy and his son, Charlie, came from North Idaho for the camp.
"He's been playing tackle for the last couple of years," said Brophy. "He goes to school in Hayden, a Christian center school, plays for Timberlake Tigers. A much smaller group of people than what happens in Spokane."
Big Sky athletes from schools including Eastern Washington University and the University of Idaho try their hand at coaching as kids from 8th grade and under hone their football skills.
Brophy says that the clinic is a good opportunity for his son to pick up new skills.
"You get to see a lot of different stuff that maybe other coaches don't teach, you know?" said Brophy.
Brophy also says that with temperatures in the upper nineties, he is taking some precautions to keep both himself and his son safe.
"Drink a lot of water. Find some shade and cool off. Heat Stroke is a serious thing," said Brophy.
100 kids have registered for the 4th annual camp and many will aim to bring the experience and training into a successful season this coming fall.
"A lot of like-minded people," said Brophy. "A lot of kids out here to have fun."
