SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Indians have swept the weekly Northwest League awards. Outfielder Jake Snider was named the NWL player of the week and starting pitcher Connor Staine was named the NWL pitcher of the week.
Snider hit .381 with 3 home runs and nine runs batted in this week against Hillsboro, including a game tying grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning on Saturday night at Avista Stadium.
Snider has had quite the journey to Spokane. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2019 MLB Draft.
After two years in the Pirates organization, Snider was released and spent a season in independent ball before signing with the Rockies in 2023.
He spent a full season in low-A Fresno last season hitting .261 with six home runs and 37 runs batted in.
This season, Snider started his year in Fresno once again, but he hit .311 with two home runs and 20 runs batted in through 34 games.
Following Braiden Ward's promotion to Hartford, Snider was promoted to Spokane where he has raked to the tune of a .327 average with four home runs and 15 runs batted in.
As for Staine, he had the best outing of his tenure in Spokane on Sunday against the Hops.
Staine went seven innings and gave up just two hits while walking two and striking out nine as the Indians shut out Hillsboro 8-0.
It has been a rough start for Staine in Spokane as he is 2-3 with a 5.03 ERA, but Sunday's outing may turn the right hander's fortunes.
The Indians begin a six game set on the road in Vancouver Tuesday night.
