Fans braving heat for Spokane Indians game

Staff are aware of how hot it was on Tuesday and are making sure people are able to enjoy the festivities as comfortably as possible.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Hundreds braved the hot temperatures to experience the "Christmas in July" Spokane Indians game at Avista Stadium Tuesday night.

When you think of triple-digit temperatures, you may not associate them with Christmas, but that was the case at Avista Stadium Tuesday night, as everyone geared up for the ballpark's annual "Christmas in July Night." The night consisted of Santa pictures, Christmas music and trivia.

"We're not scared of the heat," K.C. Zinkgraf said. "Fun, festivities, it's good."

Zinkgraf's uncle suggested the two attend Tuesday night's game despite the hot temperatures. "Doing family things is important, even if it is hot outside," Zinkgraf said.

Staff are aware of how hot it was on Tuesday and made sure people enjoyed the festivities as comfortably as possible.

All across the park, staff worked hard to prepare for the event, including getting cold treats available for everybody coming out, water bottle refilling stations and maybe most importantly, making sure seats have shade for people sitting outside for hours.

Staff said it was a celebration despite the weather.

"It's not hard to find a spot where it's cool here, and I think that's one of the biggest myths that we have is that it's going to be really hot at the ballpark," Otto Klein, General Manager of the Spokane Indians, said. "There's always a nice breeze, there's always a lot of shade, the majority of seats are in the shade, so I think everybody will be really comfortable."

The staff hoped those who attended took advantage of the treats, the shade and the water to get the best experience out of it.
