Spokane Arena Football team to hold open tryout

The Spokane Empire will hold an open tryout and test participants through several training drills.
The Spokane Shock beat Portland 42-40 at Spokane Arena Saturday night to clinch a spot in the postseason.

SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Spokane Empire indoor football team will hold an open tryout on January 29 from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. The tryouts will be at the Spokane Soccer Center at 7320 E Nora Ave in Spokane Valley.

The Spokane Empire was previously known as the Spokane Shock. League officials said the name change happened in December to tie the team name to the Inland Northwest, also known as the "Inland Empire."

Registration for the open tryouts will begin on-site in the weight room area at approximately 6:00 p.m. The registration fee on the day of the tryout is $70 and must be paid in cash. Participants may also pre-register for a reduced cost online by January 27.

Participants will receive a t-shirt as part of the registration fees and will be required to fill out a participation waiver prior to the performing any testing or drills.

The workout will begin promptly at 6:35 p.m and will include speed and agility testing, field work and other drills.
