Community members discuss how to move forward together as a country regardless of political parties

Community members from different sides of the aisle talk about the future and how the only way forward is together.

SPOKANE, Wash. — With the dust still settling from Election Night, KREM 2 went out into the community to hear directly from people about how they are feeling following the election. 

"The divide is something that I really dislike within the states right now because I have lost friends over this which sucks because the views are just so different," Krysta Espinoza said. 

"I think we have to work together if we want to preserve this country," Susan Wilkins said. 

After a night of heightened tension, It's important to prioritize your mental health. Co-owner of Sanctuary Spokane, Alycia Policani, said that she has definitely seen the demand for mental help in the area. 

Policani said leading up to election night, Sanctuary Spokane saw a higher number of people looking for help. She said that the night of the election and the day before were fully booked until closing. 

"You know, we were not all born knowing how to deal with everything and there are a lot of issues and stressors that are brand new to us every year," Policani said. 

Policani said there are some things you can do at home to de-stress like:

  • Unplugging from all electronics and sit in a dark and quiet room
  • Draw yourself a hot bath
  • Spend some time outdoors in the sun to boost your serotonin levels
