SPD arrest suspect for trespassing on a BNSF locomotive

Railroad crossing

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane police responded to the report of a male locked inside a running locomotive and blowing the whistles around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The incident happened near N. Helena St. and E. Front Ave. Upon arrival, officers located Jeremy J. Warfield, 40, locked inside the locomotive. Warfield did not cooperate with police, refused to come out of the train, and did not answer the Officer’s questions.

The train was still running during the incident, however BNSF staff assisted Officers with disabling the engines. After attempting verbal negotiations with Warfield for over an hour, the police sprayed pepper spray into the cab of the locomotive through an open window.

After several minutes, Warfield gave himself up and was taken into custody without incident. Warfield was suspected to be under the influence of drugs and had a previous criminal history. Warfield was charged with Trespassing in the 2nd degree. He was booked into Spokane County Jail.
