Toddler dies in truck fire, family transported to burn center

Parents were able to get two other children out of the truck after the fire started.

BOISE, Idaho — A two-year-old girl died Thursday in a vehicle fire near West Irving Street and North Manville Street, according to the Boise Fire Department.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene around 11:15 a.m. and found a truck fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze but could not save the young girl, who was in the backseat of the vehicle.

Two adults, identified as the child's parents, were outside the vehicle when the fire started.

They managed to rescue two other children—a 10-month-old and a 4-year-old —but weren't able to get the toddler out in time.

All four were transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but authorities currently believe it was accidental.

Boise Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer expressed deep sorrow for the family's loss.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family who tragically lost their child in this devastating vehicle fire," Niemeyer said.

The Ada County Coroner's office will release the victim's identity after completing proper notification procedures.

The investigation is ongoing.

KTVB spoke with the family Friday evening and learned the victims have been transported to a Salt Lake City burn center. A verified GoFundMe has been posted to support the family involved in the fire.
