PULLMAN, Wash. — Following record flooding on the Palouse in April, many people called Pullman firefighters heroes.
Firefighters and city workers were caught on camera rescuing people stranded by the flood. But not everyone was impressed by the rescue and Washington State Labor and Industries is investigating.
High waters in April tore through streets and shops and, in some cases, stranded people.
With water that was two feet deep in spots, the city had to get creative when it came to rescuing people. They started to use a front loader from Pullman's public works department.
Pullman Fire Department leaders said an anonymous complaint over the rescue is the cause of the investigation. At the time, the city credited the use of that heavy equipment playing a big role.
In an email, the department's chief simply told KREM, "We were advised the investigation was from an anonymous complaint. We have not heard back from them yet."
He declined to comment further. KREM 2 reached out to Labor and Industries for comment and is waiting to hear back.
