SPOKANE, Wash. — A proposed senate bill is aiming to have school districts across Washington state teach the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance no later than the 2025-2026 school year.

If it passes, the bill would have districts, at minimum, teach the meaning of the pledge once in elementary school, once in middle school and once in high school. In addition, the office of the superintendent would need to make resources related to the meaning and history of the pledge available for students.

At this time, the bill has been assigned to a Senate committee for study.
