SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane County Treasurer and Former Washington state Senator Michael Baumgartner announced his plans to run for Washington's soon-to-be open seat in Congress.
Baumgartner held a campaign event in Spokane Monday to officially kick off his bid for Washington's 5th Congressional District. That seat is opening after current Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) announced she will not seek re-election.
Baumgartner was first elected as Spokane County Treasurer in 2018. Prior to his time with the county, he served as a state senator for Washington's 6th district from 2011 to 2019. He served as chair of the Commerce and Labor Committee and the vice chair of the Ways and Means Committee during his time with the legislature.
