SPOKANE, Wash. — The 2023 General Election came and went, and Spokane residents are eagerly awaiting the results of this year's mayoral race between incumbent Mayor Nadine Woodward and Lisa Brown.
The latest results from November 13 show Brown is maintaining a four-point lead over Woodward. With all 164 precincts reporting. Brown has received 51.73% of the votes, and Woodward has received 47.72% of the votes.
During August's primary election, both Woodward and Brown secured a majority of the votes out of the five candidates running to be Spokane's mayor. Brown pulled in 2,000 more votes than Woodward in the first release of results.
KREM 2 received updated statements from both candidates after the Spokane County Elections Office released the latest results on the general election:
“I’m very grateful to have been chosen by the voters to be the next Mayor of Spokane. Thank you to the volunteers and everyone who believed in our vision of a better way. I’m ready and excited to get to work for the city that we love.” Brown said.
“I want to thank everyone for the love and support they have shown me over the past couple of weeks. We have been through a lot, worked really hard, and accomplished a great deal.
The election results are not trending in a direction that’s favorable to me, but out of respect for everyone who has cast a ballot that has not yet been counted, I am going to see this through to the final ballot. I want people to know that voting is important and that their vote matters, especially in local elections and particularly on a day that we honor those who have served our country to protect our freedoms and democracy.
I will make a full statement about the mayor’s race once all the votes have been counted.” Woodward said.
The Secretary of State will certify the results of the general election on Nov. 28, 2023.
