How do the Washington primaries work? Here is what we know

It features races in all 39 counties for key positions such as governor, attorney general and United States senator and representative.

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Washington state’s 2024 primary election is Tuesday, August 6.

It features races in all 39 counties for key positions such as governor, attorney general and United States senator and representative.

The top two vote-getting candidates for each position move on to the general election in November.

To vote in the primary, you must be registered and there are three ways to do that.

Some voters are eligible to register online or mail in paper forms, which are due by July 29th. You can register in person at your local elections office until August 6th, before 8 p.m.

Ballots are mailed to your home.

After filling out the ballot and signing the return envelope,  you can either mail your ballot in or turn it in in person to your county elections office or local drop box by 8 p.m. on August 6th. No stamps are necessary.
