Coeur d'Alene City Council requesting candidates for vacant position

The open position is left from Woody McEvers' appointment to mayor after Jim Hammond resigned.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — Following the rearrangement of Coeur d'Alene City Council, the City is now looking for candidates to fill their open vacancy.

Coeur d'Alene Mayor Woody McEvers and the City Council are asking people interested in filling the position to apply for the open seat. McEvers became Mayor after former Mayor Jim Hammond announced his resignation, leaving an open spot on the City Council.

The City of Coeur d'Alene said  the person who is appointed to the position will serve in the role until November 4, 2025. The City also said the election is complete with the newly elected council member that will be sworn in on January 6, 2026, and the person who is appointed can run in the election to keep their seat.

Here are the qualifications the City said candidates must have to be considered to be appointed:

  • The person must be at least 18 years of age.
  • The person must be a U.S. citizen.
  • The person’s primary residence must be within the City of Coeur d’Alene.
  • The person must be registered to vote.
  • The person must be a resident of the City for at least 30 days prior to submitting their information.  (They must continue to meet these qualifications throughout their term of office.)

The City said other desired qualifications include experience serving on community commissions such as Planning and Zoning, Parks, etc., active involvement in the community and volunteer activity in the community.

Those interested in applying must contact the City Clerk for an application. The City said applications include a resume, cover letter and letters of reference form Coeur d'Alene citizens.

Interested candidates must apply by Friday, September 27 at 4 p.m. Candidates can submit their applications to the City Clerk at City Hall on East Mullan Avenue. You can also email your application at Renata@cdaid.org.

If candidates would like to mail their applications, the City said they must do so by Friday, September 27 at 4 p.m.

Candidates selected to be interviewed will be interviewed before City Council on Monday, October 7.
