Meta moment with Shawn Ashmore: The actor plays the video game he stars in

For an actor, embodying a video game hero is probably one of the single coolest things you can possibly do. That job requires wearing a mo-cap suit, plenty of running, lots of jumping and many hours of fighting. Oh, and the dying. So much dying.

For an actor, embodying a video game hero is probably one of the single coolest things you can possibly do. That job requires wearing a mo-cap suit, plenty of running, lots of jumping and many hours of fighting. Oh, and the dying. So much dying.

Shawn Ashmore did all of those things to play Jack Joyce in the new video game Quantum Break (available now on Xbox One). He told us all about his two-year filming experience over, of course, a gaming sesh. This was both a very meta (The real Ashmore and the video-game Ashmore look so much alike!) and terrifying (because we are not good at first-person-shooter games). We accidentally killed avatar Ashmore, in front of the actor.

But hey, at least we got to see one of Ashmore's death performances, of which there are many to choose: He had to die from a bullet to the face, bullet to the leg, punch to the gut, etc. He told us how "the higher you go up the body, the louder (the shriek of death) is:

If only Ashmore's other characters were there to assist: The Following FBI agent Mike Weston could help on missions, X-Men hero Ice Man could rescue him (especially from the many fires in the game) and In a Heartbeat EMT Tyler Connell could revive him. Hey, that would be a great video game! We suggested it to Ashmore. "It's like a total Superman. Yeah, it might be a little too much for one game," he said.
