McDonald's drink machine causes scare in N. Spokane

Officials said employees reacted quickly to smoke coming from the drink dispenser.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane fire officials said an overheated electrical motor in a fountain drink dispenser caused a scare at the McDonald's on Monroe Street Thursday night.

Fire crews responded to a report of smoke coming from the McDonald's around 10:30 p.m. Officials said employees reacted quickly to smoke coming from the drink dispenser.

Fire officials said the employees used a fire extinguisher to quickly address the issue. They said other employees did a great job evacuating the store of employees and customers.

Fire crews credit employees' quick actions for the face that little damage resulted. Firefighters confirmed that the electricity had been controlled and the area around the motor was safe. They said they vented smoke and extinguished products from the interior air.

Officials estimate there was $200 worth of damage.
