WSU Academic Student Employees reach tentative deal with WSU, avoiding strike for now

Shortly after hitting the picket lines, the ASE secured an agreement that included major pay increases.

PULLMAN, Wash. — Academic Student Employees (ASE) across all the different Washington State University campuses hit the picket lines on Wednesday.

This agreement includes a major pay increase, more affordable healthcare, longer parental leave, a building fee waiver and other benefits. Campuses involved include the main Pullman campus, the Spokane campus and more.

ASE failed to reach an agreement with the WSU Admin by the strike deadline in January. Shortly after the strike began the WSU Coalition of Academic Student Employees-UAW team announced they reached a tentative agreement with the university.

Wage increases include a minimum base wage of $2,318.50 per month for salaried ASEs in Pullman.

The deal also approved a minimum 5% increase to all ASE salaries within 90 days of ratification. There will be an hourly minimum wage of $17.09 in Pullman; hourly rates for other campuses will be adjusted for the cost of living.

From January 19 through 25, the agreement will go to all the members for a vote.

If the agreement is signed, this would be the first contract for ASEs at WSU.
