WSU "Cougar Country Loud and Proud" crop mural damaged by windstorm

The crop mural is not permanent, but Washington State Employee Credit Union, who commissioned the piece this year, had hoped it would last until WSU's Homecoming.

PULLMAN, Wash. — Dust and windstorms across the Inland Northwest hit the Palouse with between 50 and 60 mph wind gusts Wednesday night.

This along with reported thunderstorms and heavy rain in the area have damaged Washington State University's (WSU) "Cougar Country Loud and Proud" crop mural near their Pullman campus.

According to Washington State Employee Credit Union (WSECU), who commissioned this year's WSU crop mural, "most of the teal color washed away and some of the design is looking pretty wind-blown, particularly the finer details."

Despite the strong winds and rain that passed through the area Wednesday night, the cougar and the "Loud and Proud" can still mostly be seen on the hillside.

While the artwork is not permanent, WSU and WSECU had hoped it would last until the university's Homecoming game on Friday, October 18.

The artwork was originally completed around September 7 by earthwork artist Stan Herd.
