SPOKANE, Wash. — Washington State Patrol (WSP) released their latest crash numbers after Wednesday's major snowstorm.
WSP reported 104 crashes in the Spokane city area between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. District troopers said they responded to 119 crashes between the Adams, Ferry, Lincoln, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens and Whitman counties.
WSP reported 22 minor injuries and one serious injury in the same day.
Wednesday's snowstorm made many of the roads slick with snow. The city of Spokane activated its all-city plow, while Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) snow crews worked to keep snow off the interstate. Major crashes on the road took a toll on drivers, like the 10 crashes that left I-90 near Liberty Lake at a standstill for several hours.
The forecast predicts more snow on the way to the Inland Northwest, with a chance of freezing rain on Friday. The freezing rain could leave a slick sheet of ice on top of any unplowed snow, leading to even more dangerous road conditions.
Winter weather conditions are still a concern for major roadways like I-90 and the mountain passes. Drivers are reminded to take it slow, keep chains in their cars, and watch out for any dangerous road conditions.
