Spokane County Sheriff's Office investigating deadly motorcycle crash near Mead

According to the sheriff's office, initial information indicates speed and possible impairment could be contributing factors in the deadly crash.

SPOKANE, Wash. — A woman was killed in a motorcycle crash near Mead Friday night.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to reports of a motorcycle crash with serious injuries at North Fairview Road near East Piper Road just after 7 p.m. Friday night.

The sheriff's office said callers said two people were on the motorcycle when it crashed. The sheriff's office also said they and firefighters with Spokane County Fire District 9 arrived and provided medical treatment.

The sheriff's office said the female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff's office also said the male driver of the motorcyclist sustained severe injuries and was taken to the hospital for additional care.

According to the sheriff's office, initial information indicates speed and possible impairment could be contributing factors in the deadly crash.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner will release the name of the woman killed, along with the cause and manner of her death, at a later time when appropriate.

The sheriff's office said Fairview Road is closed near East Piper Road as law enforcement continues to investigate. People are asked to avoid the area and take a different route.
