Woman dies after being hit by two vehicles in Northeast Spokane

According to the Spokane Police Department (SPD), the crash happened just after 7 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of North Morton Street and East Empire Avenue.

SPOKANE, Wash — A woman died Saturday night after being hit by two separate vehicles in Northeast Spokane.

According to the Spokane Police Department (SPD), the crash happened just after 7 p.m. at the intersection of North Morton Street and East Empire Avenue.

SPD said a vehicle going down Empire hit the 35-year-old victim as she crossed the street. She then fell onto the roadway, where she was hit by a second vehicle.  

The woman died at the scene, according to SPD.

SPD’s Major Crimes unit and drug recognition experts from both SPD & the Washington State Patrol responded to investigate.

SPD said the investigation found the driver of the first vehicle, identified as Gary Thompson, 70, was impaired. Authorities took him into custody for vehicular homicide.

The driver of the other vehicle was not impaired, said SPD.

The investigation is ongoing.
