Swawilla fire 98% contained, Level 2 evacuations still in place

The fire has burned an estimated 53,462 acres.
Evacuation levels have dropped for the town of Keller, to Level 2.

KELLER, Wash. — The Swawilla fire continues to burn near the town of Keller. On Monday, National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) said the fire was 98% contained with the fire size estimated at 53,462 acres.

According to Colville Tribal Broadcasts on Facebook, the fire is now 98% contained.

Evacuations

The town of Keller, the Highway 21 corridor, Mt. Tolman, Buffalo Lake and McGinnis Lake are now in Level 2 evacuation. 

Road Closures

All roads in evacuation level 2 areas are open, including Hwy 21, Peter Dan/Manilla and Cache Creek. Roads within level 3 evacuation zones are closed to the public. Fire officials ask those traveling in the area to use extreme caution as firefighting crews remain in the area and low visibility can create dangerous driving conditions. 

The Keller Ferry is open and fully operational.

Containment Status

According to the latest fire update from the Colville Tribal broadcast system, firefighters are continuing to focus on mopping up 100 feet inside of the containment lines. Crews are also removing hoses, pumps and other equipment from the fire are to be utilized in other fires in the region.

The Bridge Creek Fire, which was burning nearby, is 98% contained and its resources were redirected to help contain the Swawilla Fire.
