ALPOWA, Wash. — Level 3 Evacuations (Go Now!) have been downgraded for a wildfire burning toward Alpowa, Washington.
The Garfield County Sheriff's Office initally said "The fire is moving north and east towards the Alpowa. Residents in that part of the county are now under a LEVEL 3 evacuation which means there is danger currently affecting their area or is imminent, and you should leave immediately."
Fire officials are calling the fire the Lower Granite Fire.
Evacuations
According to the Garfield County Sheriff's Office, Level 3 Evacuations have been downgraded to Level 2 for the following locations:
- North Garfield County
- South Deadman Road North and Houle City Mayview Road East
- Bratcher Grade East
- Lynn Gulch
- Washboard
- Bratcher Grade
- East Lynn Gulch
- North Deadman Creek
- McGrann Hill
- Wawawai Road
- Lambie Grade
- Bounds Road
- Debow
- Tramway
Level 2 (Get Set) evacuations have been downgraded to Level 1 for the following areas:
- Neighbors from Kirby Mayview Road east to the Garfield County line
- Homes from Kirby Mayview Road east to Garfield County line and north of Highway 12
- South Kirby Mayview Road
- Valentine
- McKee Road
- Elsensohn Road
- Malone Hill
- Howell Grade
- Legge Road
- Ledgerwood Road
- Olson Road
- Bowman Road
- Beale Road
The sheriff's office said people who live in Pomeroy, Washington (which is around 30 minutes from Aplowa) are not under Level 3 Evacuations at this time.
The sheirff's office said neighbors can evacuate themselves and their animals to the Garfield County Fairgrounds.
According to the state fire marshal's office, state fire assistance has been mobilized for the fire.
The fire has burned 14,482 acres. Fire officials say the fire is 50% contained.
Fire officials say the fire is burning grass and threatening primary structures, crops, rangeland and other infrastructure.
The sheriff's office said multiple fire crews are working on the fire. The sheriff's office also said any questions can be asked to the Garfield County Sheriff's Office at 509-843-3494.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The sheriff's office said the fire started on South Deadman Road in the north end of Garfield County.
Alpowa, Washington, is about 50 minutes away from Pullman and a little over two hours away from Spokane.
