ASOTIN COUNTY, Wash — The Cougar Creek fire has burned 21,477 acres in Asotin County and has prompted all levels of evacuations. The fire is currently 40% contained, according to the Garfield County Sheriff's Office.

From the mouth of Cottonwood Creek North to Forest Rd 4034 west to the county line

South of the Grande Ronde from 129 and the state line west. North from Boggan's to the intersection of W. Mountain Rd and Forest Rd 4304.
In Wallowa County, OR
All of Grouse Flat from Bear Creek North to State and Garfield County Lines all the way to the Grande Ronde River
Level 1 (Be Ready) Evacuations:
In Asotin County, WA
The intersection of Mill Rd & HWY 129 west to the county line, south to Forest Rd 4034, and from the intersection of W. Mountain Rd and FS Rd 4304 east to 129 and south to the county line.
As of Sunday, July 21, officials report that the fire is expected to be "plume-dominated." This means the fire behavior is being controlled by the wind and will likely create volatile activity. Fire managers will be monitoring its condition.
Evacuation Shelters
The American Red Cross has opened an emergency evacuation center at the Asotin County Fairgrounds for those displaced by the Level 3 evacuations.
Assistance available at the shelter will include food, cots and other urgent needs. Evacuating residents are encouraged to bring any needed medication, extra clothing, bedding, hygiene supplies and important documents.
If you are relocating to the shelter call 1-800-Red Cross (733-2767) and inform them you need access to the Asotin County Shelter.
If you are relocating cattle they can also be taken to the Asotin County Fairgrounds. Asotin County Emergency Management says to contact Steve Mullins at (509) 552-2500.
Road Closures
- Grande Ronde Road is closed from Troy, Oregon to Highway 129 junction in Washington
The sheriff's office said DNR has resources on the fire, which includes air support, dozers and firefighters.
The sheriff's office is also requesting boaters to stay out of the area so aircraft can use water supply on the Snake River to help put out the fire.
