Evacuations downgraded for Columbia Basin Fire burning in Tyler, Washington

Evacuations have been downgraded in multiple areas in southwest Spokane County.

TYLER, Wash. — All evacuations have been lifted for a wildfire burning in southwest Spokane County.

On Thursday, August 1, fire officials announced that the Columbia Basin fire has burned 252 acres and is now 100% contained. 

Spokane County Fire District 3 said the forward progression of the fire has stopped. The fire district also said the fire is 100% dozer lined.

The fire destroyed three residences, and seven outbuildings. One residence was also damaged by the fire.

Command requested a second-alarm to be issued for extra resources to help put out the fire. State Mobilization has also been called to help put out the fire.

The Washington State Fire Marshal's Office said the fire is burning in timber and grass. The fire marshal's office also said the fire is threatening homes, the railroad, I-90 and the entire community of Tyler, Washington.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Washington State Patrol said Highway 904 closed as crews work to put out the fire. The highway is now open, according to WSP.

The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center at Cheney High School that will open at 3:30 p.m.
