One arrested, evacuations dropped for Soap Lake fire

The fire destroyed several buildings and vehicles. The Grant County Sheriff's Office has arrested one person suspected of starting the Road 20 Fire.

SOAP LAKE, Wash. — One person was arrested and people were let back into their homes after a brush fire near Soap Lake on Tuesday night.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office announced that all evacuation levels were dropped at 12:30 a.m. Road 20 is now back open, and those who evacuated can reenter.

The Sheriff's Office said they arrested David Teslyuk, 25,  for first degree reckless burning for causing the fire, explaining that the arrest was in the first degree because someone was seriously injured from the fire and because of the amount of lost property. He's expected to make a first appearance in court Wednesday.

According to an initial damage assessment, the fire burned four cars, four RVs and seven outbuildings. All were along Road B.5 NE.

The Sheriff's Office said one homeowner was hospitalized with inhalation injuries. In addition, a pregnant woman was checked by paramedics but declined further services.

At last update, the fire has burned about 25 acres.
