All evacuations dropped for Upper Cemetery Fire burning near Government Way in Spokane

The fire is 100% contained but still burning roughly 44 acres.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Fire crews are responding to a brush fire, named the Hills Fire, or the Upper Cemetery Fire, that is burning near North Government Way in Spokane. Details are limited at this time as crews battle the flames. 

As of Wednesday, July 31 all evacuations have been dropped. Fire crews continue to work on containing the fire and the Northeast Washington Interagency reports that Wednesday is expected to be the final day of firefighters on the scene. 

As of Thursday, August 1, the fire spans 44 acres and is 100% contained. 

According to the Department of Natural Resources, five engines and one helicopter were responding to the Upper Cemetery Fire.

DNR said forward progression for the Upper Cemetery fire has stopped.

The Washington Fire Marshal's Office said the fire is threatening 546 structures and homes. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
