Highway 17 south of Soap Lake reopens following wildfire

The Grant County Sheriff's Office says no evacuations are in effect as of now.

SOAP LAKE, Wash. — The Grant County Sheriff's Office (GCSO) said Highway 17 between Highway 282 and Highway 28 was closed due to a wildfire in the area. 

Here is what you need to know as of 6:45 p.m. according to the sheriff's office.

  • Highway 17 has now reopened
  • GCSO said the fire started at the Ephrata Gun Range, and fire officials originally believed the fire was on both sides of Highway 17. GCSO said the fire did not jump the highway.
  • The fire has been contained.
  • GCSO said the fire was large, but it was burning in a mostly unpopulated area.
  • GCSO said no evacuation notices were issued.
  • Resources have been requested across Grant County
  • The size of the fire has not been mapped
  • Winds are blowing to the south-southeast
