CHENEY, Wash. — Spokane County Fire District 3 is responding to a wildfire that is burning at westbound I-90 near Cheney.
Here is what we know so far:
- The fire is burning at Milepost 263 on Eastbound I-90.
- The fire is three acres in size and is burning in grass and timber.
- Forward progression has stopped.
- Structures, which includes several homes and outbuildings, were threatened, according to Spokane County Fire District 3.
- No evacuations have been issued as of yet.
- The fire has been knocked down and crews are preparing to mop up the fire, according to DNR.
- Fire crews are building containment lines and are beginning the mop-up process.
- Firefighters are experiencing tree torching with spot fires.
- The right lane of the highway in the area was closed as crews work to put out the fire. The road is now open in the area.
- People are asked to avoid the area as crews work to put out the fire.
