Crews respond to two suspicious brush fires near Browne's Addition and Peaceful Valley

Crews will continue to patrol the area for the next few days to check for hotspots.

PEACEFUL VALLEY, Wash. — Fire crews are responding to two brush fires burning near Browne's Addition and Peaceful Valley in Spokane.

Here's what we can say about the fires:

  • There were two suspicious fires that started across the street from each other.
  • The fires were on a steep hillside with houses at the top, which presented challenges for the firefighters
  • The firefighters used a strategy of starting at the flank and working their way up the hill to contain the flames.
  • Multiple agencies assisted in fighting the fires, including the Spokane Valley Fire Department, Spokane Fire Department, and Washington State Fish and Wildlife.
  • Crews will continue to patrol the area for the next few days to check for hotspots.

Both fires are now contained and crews are mopping up the area.

The fire department said the fire stopped at the condo's irrigated lawn, which saved property valued at over $4.5 million.

While the weather is cooling down, the fire danger is still high due to dry conditions and the potential for winds, which could cause issues.

The fire department said if you see suspicious activity, report it to Crime Check at (509) 456-2233 or call 911.

This is a developing story. KREM 2 News is heading to the fire right now looking to get more information. Come back to this article for the latest updates.
