WSU sororities and fraternities put temporary pause on alcohol-related events

Greek councils said the pause was put in place due to the increasing need for medical assistance during events with alcohol present.

PULLMAN, Wash. — Fraternities and sororities at Washington State University (WSU) put a pause on all social events with alcohol after seeing an increase in medical concerns during alcohol-related events.

According to WSU, this pause was put forward by the student-run Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils and was not mandated by WSU. The pause will continue until both councils reevaluate all Greek Chapter's policies regarding alcohol.

Both councils are reportedly reevaluating policies and risk management plans because of ongoing safety concerns regarding alcohol-related events. Councils plan on clarifying and expanding on several policies, including guest policies and substance consumption before and during an event.

The Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils emphasized promoting a safe, inclusive environment for all members and guests.

The order was officially adopted earlier this week. Both Greek Councils did not provide an end date to the pause.
