Welfare check leads to safety concerns on WSU campus

The WSU Police Department received a call for a welfare check on an ex-student at approximately 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.

PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State University Police Department received a call for a welfare check on an ex-student at approximately 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.

At the time of the report there was concern because the subject of the welfare check had a picture on social media of him holding a rifle.

The rifle was an air soft weapon, which local law enforcement was aware of when the call came in.

At no time were the students, staff, or faculty members of WSU at danger.

The subject of the welfare check was located by Pullman Police Department at approximately 2:00 p.m.
