SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Police Department (SPD) is investigating an incident after a suspect jumped into the Spokane River while running from police.

According to SPD, police responded to a domestic violence call on West Water Ave. near People's Park. Police said they tried to arrest the suspect, but the suspect jumped into the water.

SPD said they called the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) for help. Spokane Police reportedly followed the suspect from the shore. They reported the man bobbed up from the river a few times before disappearing under the water completely.

According to SFD, they did not find the suspect and called off the search.

SPD said the suspect possibly violated an order at the time of the call. The suspect allegedly also had a warrant out for his arrest.

SPD said there is an ongoing investigation at this time. SPD did not specify when they will release more information.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is made available.
