SPOKANE, Wash. — Thousands of soccer fans flocked to One Spokane Stadium to capture the Spokane Velocity FC's first home game.
An hour before the game hundreds of soccer fans marched from Riverfront Park all the way to the stadium. The Spokane Velocity FC's first game was also the very first time One Spokane Stadium was sold out.
“We are Spokane, we can do soccer, and we can do it well," Spokane Velocity FC fan Lena Cooley said.
Cooley isn't the only one who's waited for soccer in Spokane.
“I've waited my whole life to experience the culture and everything that comes along with having a soccer team in town," Jonathan Ehrenberg said. "Soccer's always been needed in Spokane and just this turnout shows what a big impact is on the city”
Ehrenberg is the president of the 509 Syndicate. It's the organization that put on the march to the match.
Spokane Velocity FC fans hope for a great season this year.
“I'm just so happy and so overwhelmed that Spokane has embraced soccer," Cooley said.
The Spokane Velocity FC's next home game is on March 23 at 6 p.m.
