OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Washington State Parks Recreation Commission has approved changes to how long you can camp in state parks. The new camping stay limits will go into effect Aug. 19, 2024.

According to a press release, the updated limits consist of the following:

  • You cannot stay more than 10 nights in one park within 30 days.
  • Total nights stayed cannot exceed 90 nights per calendar year in all state parks.
  • Camping stay limits are outlined in Section 7 of WAC 352-32-030.

The updated changes are to make camping stay limits clear and consistent for visitors. This will also lead to better stewardship of camping resources and improve equity of access to camping.

The new changes were brought to the Commission during its regular meeting in April, before a public comment period. The public's feedback was shared with the Commission at their meeting on July 18, where they later voted on the approved changes.
