Governor Inslee praises local organization for services they provide to the Latino community

Governor Inslee visits Spokane and talks with local organization, Latinos En Spokane, about the work they are doing to help the Latino community

SPOKANE, Wash. — Washington Governor Jay Inslee visited with Latinos En Spokane (LES) on Friday to talk about the services they provide to the Latino community in the area.

"These folks who come here, they establish businesses and they grow when we give them a little bit of help," said Inslee.

LES is an organization that started six years ago advocating for the Latino community and providing resources to those who need help. Over the years, the organization has grown to help the community with pro-bono legal services, immigration services, food distribution and social work.

"It's just amazing that we have had this growth and we have this recognition but also that we are working in alignment for all Washingtonians," says Jennyfer Mesa, Executive Director of Latinos En Spokane.

One topic that Gov. Inslee made sure to talk about with LES was the work they are doing with climate action in relation to the Climate Commitment Act which was passed in the state legislature back in 2021.

According to the Washington State Department of Ecology, the Climate Commitment Act establishes a comprehensive, market-based program to reduce carbon pollution and achieve the greenhouse gas limits set in state law.

After the round table discussion,  Inslee had the opportunity to see the rest of the LES building.
