Firefighters say cigarette started early morning fire at The Viking restaurant in Spokane

Investigators say a cigarette left in a wooden planter started a fire on the front patio.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane firefighters believe a discarded cigarette caused a fire at The Viking restaurant near downtown Spokane on Tuesday morning.

The fire was reported around 5:30 a.m. at the restaurant on North Stevens Street, just a few blocks north of the Spokane Arena.

Photos and video from the scene show heavy damage to the front of the building including the entryway, deck, and siding. The owner told KREM 2 News there is no damage to the inside of the building.

 By 6:30 a.m. the fire was put out and fire investigators were on the scene looking at the inside of the building as well.

Spokane Fire told KREM 2 News that someone left a cigarette in a wooden planter on the front patio. That started the fire on the wooden deck.

At this time, there are no reported injuries.
