KELLOGG, Idaho — Majorjon Kaylor, the man who killed a family of four in their Kellogg, Idaho home on Father's Day in 2023, hears from his surviving victims just six days prior to his sentencing.
Victim impact statements were made by thirteen people that the presiding judge deemed to have been so negatively impacted by the crime that they are, by extension, surviving victims.
In the statements filed Tuesday by Shoshone County Prosecuting Attorney Benjamin Allen, the victims address both Kaylor and the judge, detailing how the heinous June 18 killings have affected them.
Some statements were handwritten, and some were typed. However, all of them contain immense grief for those killed and plea Judge Barbara Duggan to deliver adequate justice at Kaylor's sentencing hearing.
Kaylor murdered four of his neighbors on June 18, 2023. In a criminal complaint filed prior to the shooting, Kaylor's wife had posted on Facebook about an inappropriate incident involving one of the shooting victims. Kaylor's wife claimed that they had engaged in inappropriate behavior in front of her and her children, which Kaylor said caused him to "snap" and kill the family.
Majorjon Kaylor pleaded guilty in December 2023 to four counts of second-degree murder for shooting and killing his four neighbors. In a plea agreement, the murder charges were reduced to murder in the second degree from first-degree in exchange for his plea of guilt.
Kaylor's burglary charges were also dropped as part of the agreement.
One of the thirteen statements was a three-page, handwritten sentiment in which 65-year-old Kenny Guardipee's brother, Joe Guardipee, addressed Kaylor directly.
"What a man you are, not only did you destroy my family, but yours as well," Joe said. "You said you were protecting your children, let me ask you: Who's protecting them now?"
Joe Guardipee spoke of each family member and compared his pain to that which he experienced in the Vietnam War.
"You viciously massacred and mutilated him with a large amount of lead bullets," Joe stated. "You decided to be judge and jury, you decided to play God. You decided to take matter in your own hand, you decided it was OK to take the lives of four of my family members. Well let me tell you about my family members."
Joe went on to talk about the four victims, stating Kenna Guardipee, 41, was a "young, hardworking single mother, who was doing her best to raise two boys," and Kenny "had finally reached retirement age, [and] was going to enjoy some of the so-called 'golden years.'"
Joe described Aiken Smith, 16, as an "innocent kid, who never hurt a soul...a great lad, a member of the high school junior ROTC."
He concluded with 18-year-old Devin Smith, who was the victim that Kaylor blamed for provoking the slaughter. "A young boy just graduated from high school, with his future ahead of him. He had some mental issues his family was dealing with," Joe said of Devin.
Twelve more victim impact statements were made by family members and friends.
Majorjon Kaylor's sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 25.
