SPOKANE, Wash. — A bakery is working to repair its downtown Spokane location after a car crashed into the side of the building on Saturday morning.
Sweet Frostings Blissful Bakeshop shared a Facebook photo on Monday that showed a car that had crashed into store. The business was quick to find humor in the situation, writing, “We’ve confirmed our downtown location is not a drive-thru."
Owners said no one was hurt and the business will remain open during repairs, adding that the crash did cause tens of thousands of dollars in damage.
Manager Jessica Winfrey said a car was traveling through the intersection of Washington Street and First Avenue on Saturday morning when another car ran a red light and T-boned the first, slamming it into the bakery's wall.
"It was a really loud, horrible noise," Winfrey said.
Winfrey estimates that the business is dealing with at least $20,000 in damage, including destroyed cakes, a smashed cake case and a shattered wall of windows.
"You're dealing with a historical building you can't really put a value on," she added.
Most of the boards and glass are cleaned up, but the business is still unable to store or display some of its cakes, Winfrey said. She added that this, along with the boarding up of the store, has caused Sweet Frostings to lose some business.
Winfrey says it will be another six weeks before the building is fixed and its pastries are back on display.
The crash comes just days after a car crashed into Prohibition Gastropub on Feb. 20 – just before the start of Inlander Restaurant Week. Prohibition's owner Jill Leonetti said on Facebook that no one was hurt.
With the help of cleaning and restoration company Servpro Industries, Avista Utilities, Comcast, and the Spokane Police and Fire Departments, the restaurant was able to open for dinner on the same day.
“We are so thankful no one was hurt,and are looking forward to the new building facade in the next month or two,” Leonetti wrote to KREM on Tuesday.

Leonetti also reminded guests that the restaurant will remain open and is taking reservations for Restaurant Week, which ends on Saturday.
About two weeks ago, a stolen truck crashed into Tacos El Sol in North Spokane on Feb. 10.
An officer was chasing a woman driving the truck, who Washington State Patrol troopers say was driving aggressively and swerving into oncoming traffic. Then, the driver hit the restaurant at North Division Street and East Glass Avenue.
