Thor Street business frustrated over construction project

The construction project is expected to be completed in fall 2024.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The City of Spokane is in the middle of a six-month-long construction project, developing the I-90 exits and four intersections of Thor and Freya Streets.

One business located on Thor Street is experiencing frustration with the project this summer.

"We see a difference at night," said Shelby Gransbery, the general manager of Red Wheel Bar and Grill.  "The traffic is harder to navigate."

I-90 eastbound and westbound exit ramps were closed at different times earlier this month, and the project is now under phase 2, reconstructing four intersections at 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue.

Gransbery said construction and developments in the area are something she isn't used to.

"We've been open for four years," Gransbery said. "We started during Covid, [and] had other construction projects happen after that. I've seen it all."

Gransbery said after this project is completed, she hopes to have a summer season for her business without any obstacles in traffic routes.

"We're so used to jumping these hurdles during the summer, so I'm ready to have just a normal summer, nothing being closed," Gransbery said.

The project is scheduled to be completed later this fall.
