SPOKANE, Wash. — The City of Spokane's Park and Recreations wants your input on what to do with the white willow tree at the John A. Finch Arboretum after it is removed.
Some of the options to replace the beloved willow tree is making a nature-based playground with its wood, planting a replacement tree, or making a nature-based learning area with its leftover wood. There is also a spot for you to give your own suggestions for what should take the willow's place.
Earlier this spring, City of Spokane Parks & Recreation staff noticed a large crack in the tree. That crack grew, eventually bringing down one of the low-hanging branches that kids have been playing on for years. A fence was put up around the beloved tree for safety purposes shortly after.
To further ensure the safety of those who frequent the Finch Arboretum, the city is planning to remove the willow tree.
