KAMIAH, Idaho — Update at 6:40 p.m.: The fire at Roadside Bar & Grill on Kamiah, Idaho's Main St. is fully contained after an overnight response. According to Kamiah Fire Chief Billy Monahan, the flames were contained around 8:30 a.m. Monday morning.
According to Monahan, the restaurant closed at 3 p.m. on Sunday before they received a call at 6:18 p.m. and arrived on scene only a minute later.
Monahan and Lewis County Sheriff Jason Davis both said the restaurant is a "total loss" while the surrounding buildings are only impacted by minor water and smoke damage.
The Roadside Bar & Grill was estimated to be around 5,000 sq. ft., according to Monahan. On the main floor, there is a restaurant with a bar attached with a bowling alley underneath.
Kamiah Fire Department arrived on scene and immediately requested mutual aid from surrounding areas, according to Monahan.
Six agencies responded in total: Lewis County Sheriff's Office, Kamiah Fire Department, Kooskia Fire Department, Orofino Fire Department, Glenwood-Caribel Fire Department and Ridge Runners Fire Department.
When crews arrived, Monahan said there was heavy smoke coming through the roof. Crews entered through the back-door and tried to enter the kitchen where the fire was. But, they were pushed back due to the ceiling collapsing.
They later tried to enter through the front when an HVAC fell through the ceiling, causing the ceiling to collapse. Crews then moved outside and did a defensive approach, where they started multiple overhead streams of water, according to Monahan.
There was a total of 25 people on scene. According to Sheriff Davis, on Monday around 9:45 a.m., the Idaho State Fire Marshall arrived and started a two-day investigation to find out the cause of the fire.
Monahan told KREM 2 no one was hurt. This includes firefighters, first responders, restaurant workers and building leasers.
From start to finish, Monahan says crews have been at the scene for around 24-hours.
