COLVILLE, Wash.-- Fire crews are working to contain a 3,500 acre that is spreading through parts of the Colville Reservation Monday afternoon.
The fire started Sunday afternoon just before 4 p.m. about 5 miles north of Elmer City. For this reason, official are referring to the fire as the Elmer City Fire.
Crews have dispatched two helicopters to combat the flames. According to Captain Kathy Moses, wind caused the fire to spread through grass, sage and bitter brush Monday morning.
As of Monday afternoon, the fire is sixty percent contained. Crews expect to get a more accurate calculation on the size of the fire later today.
Currently there are no road closures or active evacuation notices.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
