SPOKANE, Wash. — Union workers at several area Starbucks are walking off the job on Thursday to protest the company’s stance on locations that chose to unionize. Some of the locations include the Starbucks on N. Ruby Street in Spokane and the Starbucks on NE Stadium Way in Pullman.
The decision to walk out on Thursday coincides with the company’s “Red Cup Day.” The day is an annual event where the company hands out holiday-themed reusable cups.
The union, Starbucks Workers United, says the company has refused to negotiate in good faith over issues such as staffing.
In an email, Starbucks said it hopes the union’s priorities will shift towards the success of employees and working to negotiate contracts.
Other locations participating in the strike include Kennewick, Yakima and dozens near Seattle and Olympia.
