SPOKANE, Wash. — Five Spokane youth sports programs will receive funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) after a resolution was passed by the Spokane City Council.
“The ARPA money provides not only investment into our community but investment into our youth. We’re empowering the next generation, and I wholeheartedly support strengthening the fabric of our community by promoting financial opportunities, especially in our underserved and often overlooked communities," said Councilmember Lili Navarrete.
20 organizations applied for the funding and five will receive $50,000 each. The organizations are as follows:
- If You Could Save Just One
- Spokane Eastside Reunion Association
- 90 Plus Project
- YMCA of the Inland Northwest
- Union Futbol
"Investing in youth sports is not just about providing a recreational activity; it's about fostering teamwork, discipline, and resilience in our young people,” said Councilmember Jonathan Bingle. "By funding these projects we are investing in the future of Spokane, ensuring that our children have opportunities they need to drive both on and off the field. I want to thank my colleagues, especially co-sponsor Councilmember Navarrete for her tireless work and willingness to collaborate on this resolution.”
