SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Spokane Valley City Council will get an update from the police chief at Tuesday night’s city council meeting. The update from Chief Dave Ellis comes as Spokane Valley mulls over the possibility of adding more officers to the force.
Chief Ellis is expected to give an update on the department’s new recruitment and retention plan for the years 2024-2027.
Spokane Valley currently has 91 people who work fully in the department.
In 2022, the department hired a consulting group that suggested they add 25 officers to the force. That would cost roughly $6 million.
Over the last 15 years, the valley’s population has risen by 20,000 people. In the last five years, the number of people calling the police department has gone up every year by 8,000.
The department’s plan is to have the new officers in by 2026.
Tuesday night’s council meeting begins at 6 p.m.
