First Spokane snowfall in 2024 brings split experiences in the city

Krem 2 looked at people's reactions to the year's first snowfall.

SPOKANE, Wash. — For the first snow of the year, Spokane was a tale of two cities.

On the South Hill, it was a winter wonderland. But North Spokane did not see as much snow.

"Very happy, because I'm from the south and I don't like snow at all,” Chad Powell said.

Powell lives in Wandermere. He's glad he didn't wake up to a blanket of snow.

"Easier to drive and everything,” Powell said. “I just bought an all-wheel drive so it helps a lot. I don't like winter,"

Others living in north Spokane, hope the snow falls elsewhere.

"I would hope the mountains would get the snow because there's a lot of jobs that people aren't having because of the lack of the snow,” Nancy Clatworthy said.

For Clatworthy, there's also a benefit to the lack of white on the ground.

It wasn't just the mountains getting the snow. The South Hill got a couple of inches throughout the day. But it’s still a little too late in the season for Elsie Lo.

She said, "I can't believe it, because I wanted snow for Christmas really bad."

Snow on the ground on the South Hill is putting a smile on both the young and old. Even with the snow on the South Hill, most roads were safe to drive on. People had fun sledding and playing in the year’s first snowfall.
