SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane city officials held a briefing this morning to discuss their snow response plan for the upcoming winter season.
The city says their snow preparation began months ago. They say it is a discussion that starts with what resources should be in place and where they should be located once the forecast includes a chance of snow.
In the last 24 hours, they prioritized city crews going out in trucks and getting some pretreatment done to the roads. That includes the hills and arterials as well as making sure deicing components are laid down in a proper manner.
The goal with those efforts is to help with road traction in the event that the snow sticks.
The city also says trucks are available and will be monitoring roads on Wednesday in case any black ice forms overnight.
City of Spokane Communications Manager, Kirstin Davis told KREM 2, “We’ve been preparing for months. We always start in the summer. We start acquiring those materials and staging those materials, so we have everything ready to go in those satellite locations. That way we can be flexible when we do have weather events.”
