SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) -- The Spokane Police Department has rehired a detective who was fired by former Chief Anne Kirkpatrick and who has a lawsuit pending against the city.
Spokeswoman Marlene Feist says new leadership is taking another look at the dispute with Jeff Harvey and the legal exposure.
Harvey's lawyer, Bob Dunn, toldothermedia outletshe was rehired this week at his previous position and pay of nearly $86,000 a year.
Kirkpatrick fired Harvey in July after he was charged with obstruction of justice in an encounter with a state Fish and Wildlife officer. He was acquitted in that case and sued the city, saying he was fired in retaliation for critical statements he made about the chief as vice president of the police guild.
Kirkpatrick stepped down as chief in January.
